چکیده

A bstract We investigate the effects of leading tadpole potentials 10D tachyon-free non-supersymmetric strings in warped products flat geometries type M p +1 × R T 10 ?p? 2 depending on a single coordinate. In absence fluxes and for < 8, there are two families these vacua orientifold disk-level potential, both involving finite internal interval. Their asymptotics surprisingly captured by tadpole-free solutions, isotropic one family anisotropic at end other. contrast, heterotic torus-level potential four types vacua. always tadpole-dependent lying distance, while other end, which can lie or infinite they be anisotropic. then elaborate general setup including symmetric fluxes, present three exact solutions that emerge when seven-form flux present. These include pair boundaries, separated distance. neighborhood one, all approach common supersymmetric limit, boundary isotropic, again supersymmetric. also discuss corresponding cosmologies, with emphasis their climbing descending behavior initial singularity. some cases toroidal dimensions contract during cosmological expansion.

String Duality and Non-supersymmetric Strings

In recent work Kachru, Kumar and Silverstein introduced a special class of nonsupersymmetric type II string theories in which the cosmological constant vanishes at the first two orders of perturbation theory. Heuristic arguments suggest the cosmological constant may vanish in these theories to all orders in perturbation theory leading to a flat potential for the dilaton. A slight variant of the...

Bouncing Brane Cosmologies from Warped String Compactifications

We study the cosmology induced on a brane probing a warped throat region in a CalabiYau compactification of type IIB string theory. For the case of a BPS D3-brane probing the Klebanov-Strassler warped deformed conifold, the cosmology described by a suitable brane observer is a bouncing, spatially flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe with timevarying Newton’s constant, which passes smoothly ...

Closed String Tachyons and Their Implications for Non-Supersymmetric Strings

Closed string tachyons have long been somewhat mysterious. We note that there is often a regime in the classical moduli space in which one can systematically compute the effective action for such fields. In this regime, the tachyon is light, and cannot be integrated out. Instead, one must consider the combined dynamics of gravitons, moduli, tachyons and other light fields. We compute the action...

Non-critical String Cosmologies

Non-critical String Cosmologies are offered as an alternative to Standard Big Bang Cosmology. The new features encompassed within the dilaton dependent non-critical terms affect the dynamics of the Universeś evolution in an unconventional manner being in agreement with the cosmological data. Non-criticality is responsible for a late transition to acceleration at redshifts z=0.2. The role of the...

Vacuum Energy Cancellation in a Non-supersymmetric String

We present a nonsupersymmetric orbifold of type II string theory and show that it has vanishing cosmological constant at the one and two loop level. We argue heuristically that the cancellation persists at higher loops.
